Windows 8 - 1st install
Thursday, September 15, 2011 at 2:09AM We got our hands on the newly released developer release of Windows 8 today, here's a quick run through of the install process and a quick look at the Windows 8 interface
The hardware we used for the build is a dual core AMD laptop with 4GB Ram, and is aprox 3 years old
So without further ado this is a quick walkthrough of the install process
1st job was to burn an ISO image onto DVD for the install
We swapped out the existing HD for a fresh new one, as this build of Windows 8 will overwrite the existing windows installation
Then with the boot disk in we booted the laptop from the DVD drive
windows setups starts
Until this point this looks like any other windows 7 or vista install
Again, nothing new here
This is a subtle change and seems to be quicker than in the past at setting up connected hardware
Again, same as previous versions, just a slightly different look
Quite a lot of settings consolodated into this screen
And this is the 'Metro' UI which is now the home screen instead of a standard windows desktop
Press the start button and something very familiar appears...
The web browser has had a massive ovehall and has a very minimilist look with the usual controls at the bottom when you hover at the bottom of the screen
We have just got this build up and running and will be digging about to see what the new features are over the next few weeks, stay tuned for more info.....
